Through ths project, I gained a lot. I learned about unique designs and designers from Taiwan doing so beautiful, innovative work using bamboo material. It was amazing to know the different species of bamboo grow in Taiwan. Taiwan has terrific designers and artisans doing complex contemporary bamboo weaving products. They have a good eye for details. Design sketches sent from India were well understood and crafted carefully by Taiwan Master craftsmen. I think India and Taiwan collaboration can create wonders and can bring out of the box creations. I feel I should be working with Taiwanese artisans in Taiwan to learn more designs, techniques, material, finishing and overall presentations.

Under the impact of COVID-19, it had been a quite precious and unique experience to gather the great artisans and industrial designers from India and Taiwan for this online event. While each of the bamboo artisans and designers from Taiwan’s side has her/his own speciality, everyone worked hard on the sketches with considerations of making the products meet the daily usage requirements of local culture and life style in another country as well as adjusting the designs to fit the actual production process in India; When crafting the works by Indian designers, regardless of the challlenges due to the lack of on-site communications, each one made all-out effort to produce the best results. To me this whole process happened to display the core value of this event — the positive communication and talent exchange of internal and external learning both individually and collectively. Recently, the bamboo crafting design of India has been displaying astonishing results and gaining great recognitions worldwide. I am very looking forward to more collaborations between Taiwan and India in the field of bamboo art and crafts in the future!
